How long can I stay at Foyer?
You can stay for up to 2 years, although you can leave at any time if you want to by giving one months notice – like if you want to go back home, or move into your own place.
How much is rent?
Regardless of your age, rent is $138 per week for a studio, and your bills are included in your rent. If you’re working you can move into a penthouse, our largest apartments, for an additional $23 per week.
How many apartments are there?
There are 98 apartments at Foyer Oxford, including 24 for young parents and their children.
Can I choose my apartment?
Unfortunately not, but they’re all very similar to each other. If you need an apartment that is accessible for a special need that you have, please make contact with us on 1800 185 685.
Is there a probation period?
Yes, this is the time where you can figure out whether Foyer is right for you and if it’s where you want to be. The probation period is six weeks, and during the probation period you’ll work with your case manager to figure out what you want them to support you with, and what you want to achieve to pass probation. After four weeks of probation you’ll meet with your case manager, and the case management co-ordinator, to see how you’re going.
How often do I meet with my case manager?
During probation, you will probably meet weekly. After that, you’ll be able to let your case manager know what you need. For some people they’ll continue to meet weekly, for others it’ll be monthly. Mostly it depends on how well you’re doing at Foyer. Your case manager is there to help you figure out where you want to be, and how you can get there - so you get to decide what you need them for. You do have to continue to meet with your case manager throughout your stay at Foyer Oxford.
Can I have a pet?
Goldfish, crazy crabs, and pet rocks are ok.
Is there a curfew?
No! Foyer is independent housing so there’s no set time you need to be back by. All we ask if you come home late is that you’re respectful of other people in the building and don’t make too much noise or disrupt others. There are some limits on when your friends and visitors can be in the building, and when the common spaces can be used.
How many visitors can I have?
You can have three visitors at any one time, but visitors aren’t allowed to stay overnight until you and your case manager have planned it out. Then you can have guests stay overnight, as long as you don't move someone else in. This is just so we can make sure you and other young people are safe, and that you’re not being pressured to have someone stay over that you may not really want to.
Will I be safe at Foyer?
Everyone has a right to feel safe in their home, and we will do everything we can to help keep you safe at Foyer Oxford. Foyer is covered by a sophisticated CCTV and security system and someone is here 24 hours a day. You have a key card that only gives residents and staff access to the building (no one else). Violence and threatening behaviour are not acceptable at Foyer Oxford.
I have a car, is there any parking?
Unfortunately, there is no parking available at Foyer Oxford, but there is street parking. If you do need parking, talk to a case manager when you apply about options.
Will I get support with guardianship to deal with schooling, permission slips etc?
Foyer Oxford staff are not able to act as your guardians - however we’ll support you to figure it out with your school, other service or institution.
What sort of skills can you help me gain in order to support myself independently?
We’ll help you work on your independent living skills (like cooking healthy food, and cleaning your apartment) as well as practical skills like job hunting and resume writing. Part of your tenancy will also involve rent inspections so you’ll get experience with those as well. It’s up to you to decide which skills you want to work on, and we’ll support you to find the right person to help you with that.
Is there a laundry?
There are 4 washing machines and 4 dryers provided that are free of charge to use, and accessible 24 hours a day.
